about graefe
our history
Founded in 1837 by its namesake, Richard Graefe, Graefe began life producing fine veneered marquetry (inlaid woods of different colours) panels for cabinet work and chair backs. The high standard of products created by its craftsmen and the service they offered established Graefe as a specialist within the real wood veneer industry.
Long before the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) was founded, Richard Graefe Ltd, a founder member of the World Wildlife Federation (WWF) UK 1995 group, strived to purchase timber and timber based products from independently certified, well managed sources. This environmental ethos continues to be at the heart of the company that has ardently embraced the FSC system.
With veneering as Graefe's core business for over 170 years, the vast technical knowledge and craftsman skills have been passed down through the generations and evolved to produce high quality fire rated, acoustic and standard doors, frames and panels for the 21st century market.
Graefe now works across all sectors and can lay claim to many prestigious projects including Barclays, Morgan Stanley, and Credit Suisse in Canary Wharf, the Hilton Hotel, Wembley Stadium, the Tate Modern, Wimbledon Centre Court and Ropemaker Place.
